New clothes (Christmas +1B)

The wrapping paper has been all crumpled and carted to the trash. The boxes the new clothes came in are flattened and put away for next year. The unwanted presents have been exchanged and the old clothes pulled from the drawers and hanger and donated to charity.

Christmas is over and it’s time to wear the new clothes and the new jewelry. We know this feeling as we feel more optimistic and hope people will see our new things and tell us we look good, so we can say it was gift. We feel good even if we’ve forgotten to remove all of the tags or stickers that come with our clothes.

This is a little like what the Israelites felt as they were returning to Jerusalem from Babylon with a new lease on life. They were willing to promise they would not keep silent or rest in the face of injustice as they had in the past. For the Galatians, they felt a freedom they hadn’t before and were ready to take on the world.

It’s our time of making resolutions or brand new covenants with God. What is yours?
