Cleaning the Temple (Lent 3B)

Jesus is going to the temple when he sees people doing business inside of the temple. He overturns tables and chases animals out that were profaning the sacred space.

Close your eyes and imagine your sacred space. What does it contain? What is needed and what is not? Often without realizing it stray objects enter our sacred space. Maybe they were used for a special purpose and then never removed because they might be used later.

We do the same thing with our devotional space or time. We add things or practices that are helpful at one time but don’t get rid of them when they no longer work.

Draw a table and put all of your practices on the table. Then figure out what needs to be taken off of the table because it is distracting or extraneous or doesn’t feed you anymore.
